National diver Pandelela Rinong has been conferred the Panglima Setia Bintang Sarawak (PSBS) which carries the title of “Datuk” in conjunction with the 85th birthday of the Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak, Abdul Taib Mahmud.

The country’s diving queen, who hails from Bau in Sarawak, is among 1,326 bestowed with awards and medals by the Sarawak Governor, Bernama reported.

Leading the list of recipients is former Dewan Negara president Abang Ahmad Urai Abang Mohideen who will receive the award of Datuk Amar Bintang Kenyalang (DA) which carries the title “Datuk Amar”.

Meanwhile, six people will be awarded the Panglima Negara Bintang Sarawak (PNBS), which carries the title of “Datuk Seri”.

These include federal tourism, arts and culture minister Nancy Shukri; Sarawak tourism, arts and culture minister Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah; and Sarawak transport minister Lee Kim Shin.

The other three PNBS recipients are Sarawak attorney-general Talat Mahmood Abdul Rashid, state financial secretary Wan Lizozman Wan Omar and KKB Engineering Berhad founder Kho Kak Beng.

Two recipients were awarded the Panglima Gemilang Bintang Kenyalang (PGBK), which carries the title of “Datuk”, namely assistant minister in the chief minister’s office (corporate affairs and Sarawak public communications unit) Abdullah Saidol and Shin Yang group company managing director James Ling Lu Kiong.

A total of 13 recipients were awarded the Darjah Jasa Bakti Sarawak (DJBS) which comes with the “Datu” title, including Kameri Affendi, who is permanent secretary of the state education, science and technological research ministry, and Edwin Abit, who is permanent secretary of the agriculture, native land regional development ministry.
