At his last press conference as the nation’s top cop in April, Hamid had urged the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to investigate politicians who had “party hopped”, saying corruption was “everywhere” in politics.
Mohamad (PH-Kota Raja) told the Dewan Rakyat it had been months since Hamid’s claim but there did not seem to be any probe into his allegations.
“Hamid was not just some police sergeant in Gua Musang or a corporal in Tawau. He was the IGP, revealing how corruption and irregularities were taking place in politics,” Mohamad, better known as Mat Sabu, said in his debate on the 2022 Supply Bill.
“I don’t see any serious investigations or that any information has been given to Parliament on whether the former IGP was talking nonsense.
“If he was, then he must be charged, because his comments tarnish the image of the country and the police.”
Mohamad also referenced a recent report from Edisi Siasat which alleged that some officers have to pay RM100,000 in order to be promoted, and said this must also be investigated to establish the veracity of the claims
“If it’s slander, those who make such claims must be punished, if not the police’s reputation is tarnished.”
At his press conference, Hamid had called political corruption “sickening” and said that while he tried to fight corruption in the police, it was up to MACC to stamp it out in politics.
“People drunk on power, willing to buy over others, threaten others. That’s corruption,” he said.
“I want MACC to come in and take action. Don’t be afraid. It’s sickening. Malaysians are sick (of party-hopping).”
