Pakatan Harapan chairman Anwar Ibrahim today announced it would contest all 28 seats up for grabs in the Nov 20 Melaka state election, including Idris Haron (left) and Nor Azman Hassan.

PETALING JAYA:
Pakatan Harapan (PH) will field two of the four assemblymen whose defections triggered the collapse of the Melaka state government.

At a press conference today, PH chairman Anwar Ibrahim announced the coalition would contest all 28 state seats up for grabs in the Nov 20 election and revealed its list of candidates.

The candidates include former Umno duo, Idris Haron and Nor Azman Hassan.

Machap Jaya incumbent Ginie Lim, said to be linked to former PKR deputy president Azmin Ali, has been dropped.

Anwar, the PKR president, was joined at the press conference by his Amanah counterpart, Mohamad Sabu. No top DAP leader could be seen there.

Previously, Anwar had said PH would take in two of the defectors. He did not mention the names of the two assemblymen who would likely be picked, but had said on Monday that PH was in the final stages of discussions with former Umno men Idris and Nor Azman on “potentially running under its banner”.

The other two are Bersatu’s Noor Effandi Ahmad and former DAP representative-turned-independent Norhizam Hassan Baktee.

“We are contesting as a team. This is not happening with the parties that are in government. If we want political stability, it can only be provided by PH,” said Anwar.

Anwar also said former Melaka chief minister Adly Zahari would be leading the PH charge in the polls although he said the candidate for the chief minister’s post had yet to be finalised.

He also confirmed that Idris and Nor Azman had been accepted as PH members.
