PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said Muafakat Nasional (MN) had a bigger agenda to unite Malays and Muslims as a whole, and the party would not quit MN unless it was dissolved.
“We hope that Muafakat Nasional can go back to its original intention, which is to unite the ummah. We also want to bring more non-governmental organisations back to MN,” he said at a press conference at the end of the PAS muktamar here today.
Tuan Ibrahim dismissed a claim by Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah that MN was already “buried”, saying the Umno veteran was “not involved in MN”.
In the meantime, he said, talks between the Umno and PAS leadership would continue.
On PAS’ future direction after the conclusion of the muktamar, Tuan Ibrahim said the party would “only move forward and get stronger” with Perikatan Nasional in Melaka.
“The election, with PAS being a PN component party, will be a benchmark of how we will fare in the future. I’m sure many want to see how things turn out in Melaka,” he said.
He also said PAS candidates contesting in the Melaka polls would be required to take the bay’ah (an oath of allegiance) before contesting to prevent party hopping.
PAS will contest eight of the 28 state seats in the election under the PN banner.
