Abang Johari first became the Satok assemblyman after winning a by-election in 1981 following the resignation of Abang Abu Bakar Abang Mustapha, and defended the seat until the 2016 state elections.
Corporate figure Ibrahim Baki will instead contest the Satok seat, which has traditionally been a stronghold of the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB).
PBB is the dominant party within Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) and will be contesting 47 seats, followed by Parti Rakyat Bersatu Sarawak (SUPP) 19 seats, Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) 11 seats, and Parti Demokratik Progresif (PDP) 5 seats.
Meanwhile, PDP president and Bintulu MP Tiong King Sing will contest the Dudong state seat, while the nephew of the late James Jemut Masing, Nicholas Kudi, has been nominated to defend Baleh.
SUPP president Dr Sim Kui Hian will defend the Batu Kawah state seat, while former SPBP party president William Mawan Ikon, who joined PBB, will defend Pakan.
Abang Johari, the GPS chairman, announced all 82 candidates at the PBB headquarters in Petra Jaya.
The election commission has set Dec 18 as polling day, while nomination day is on Dec 6.
