The Umno elections for the 2021-2024 term have been postponed to December next year.

PETALING JAYA:
The Umno party election for the 2021-2024 term, postponed to December 2022, should be carried out before the 15th general election, Jelebu divisional leader Jalaluddin Alias said.

He said a divisional meeting today had agreed to the proposal.

He said holding earlier party elections would ensure that the party’s machinery at all levels are those which have a renewed mandate from members, and would therefore be more prepared to face GE15.

“Umno elections should be carried out at least two years before the general election. If there are any issues, crisis or internal party issues, it can be solved earlier, in an orderly and prudent (hemah) way,” he said according to Harian Metro.

Jalaluddin who is also Jelebu MP said it is not appropriate for the general election to come before Umno polls, as it could bring problems to the party.

Party elections held sooner would have an effect on the party leadership, as the dates for the general election have not been announced.
