He said he and other EDICT members were in the Shah Alam courts for the civil suit proceedings of a death in custody case when the policemen made their unannounced visit at around 10.30am over a media statement he made two weeks ago.
As EDICT currently shares office space with another NGO, the North-South Initiative (NSI), the policemen were not allowed into the premises.
“The policemen asked for proof that the office was NSI’s and took pictures before leaving ,” Khalid told FMT.
Later in the day, he received a call from Insp Siti Radhiah Abdul Rahman of Ipoh district police headquarters, who asked him to come to Perak to give a statement.
“I refused to go to Perak and told them to come to Kuala Lumpur, which they complied with.”
“She then issued a notice 111 under the criminal procedure code, requesting my attendance at the Pantai police station in Bangsar at 3pm on Dec 15,” he added.
Khalid said the media statement in question was released by EDICT on Nov 26 with the title “PDRM must take action against two policemen who allowed the suspect to kill the victim”.
“The statement was referring to an incident that went viral on social media of two men fighting in Ipoh. The policemen who were at the scene did not attempt to intervene,” he told FMT.
He added: “It is a waste of time and resources, coming all the way from Ipoh for such a small issue.”
