He called for a Royal Commission of Inquiry to investigate the floods and urged that a parliamentary committee be set up in an effort to improve the country’s ability to handle such disasters.
“At the same time, we demand that the government help the people repair their houses that were damaged by the floods. Do not treat the issue of rehabilitation as trivial,” he said in a Facebook post.
He said the government “must have a daily press conference to update on the flood situation and the steps taken in rescuing flood victims”.
Anwar said the weaknesses in the country’s preparedness in facing disasters were now clear for all to see.
He said the slow response of the federal government, especially the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) as well as the chaotic coordination between the government and local agencies, clearly complicated the crisis for the people.
