
In a statement, chief statistician Mohd Uzir Mahidin said the price of chicken – the largest component of meat and the main source of protein for Malaysians – increased by 16.7% year-on-year (y-o-y), as a result of increases in animal feed costs.
The price of Indian mackerel, another popular protein choice, increased 6.1%, and milk, cheese and eggs went up by 4.2%.
Vegetables were also more expensive, with costs increasing 3.4% y-o-y.

The price of petrol went up 27.6% and electricity costs increased by 34.6% as a result of the electricity discount being discontinued in February.
However, the average prices of some items were stable while others saw slight decreases.
“In November, some goods that remained unchanged were communication services, education fees and toll charges. Meanwhile, among goods that registered a decline in prices were clothing and footwear (-0.4%) and vitamins (-1.7%),” Uzir said.
