Three of the victims, who had filed police reports in November, said they had “constantly” tried to contact the investigating officers but had received no response.
“I tried contacting my investigating officer from IPD Brickfields. He has read my messages but has not responded to me,” one victim said.
The trio said they had lost a total of RM63,000 but that based on conversations with other victims, the scammer could have made an estimated RM2 million.
They were speaking at a press conference organised by DAP’s Kuala Lumpur public complaints bureau at its Kepong service centre.
The scam involved pre-orders of the popular gaming console PlayStation 5, through an Instagram page called “Gila Gaming 666”.
The scammer had built trust and credibility among the victims by fulfilling the first two transactions. However, for subsequent orders placed, no gaming console units were received although payment had been made.
DAP’s KL public complaints bureau is assisting victims to draft letters to be sent to Bukit Aman and other authorities for updates on the investigation. It urged other victims to quickly lodge police reports.
