Anwar Ibrahim said opposition coalition parties have contested under their own symbols before.

PETALING JAYA:
PKR president Anwar Ibrahim has played down concerns over the party’s decision to use its own logo in the impending Johor elections, insisting that it will not affect ties among the parties in the opposition coalition.

Anwar said that PKR, DAP and PAS had contested the 2013 general election using their own symbols, although they were in the Pakatan Rakyat coalition then, and the parties did not have any problem then.

He also said that PKR had used its own logo in the Sabah and Sarawak polls.

“And the Pakatan Harapan (PH) leadership is still solid,” he told reporters at an event in Seremban. “There are those who are using this issue to divide us. Our policies and manifesto remain the same.”

The opposition leader said that the logo controversy was a non-issue with some playing it up as if it was the first time PKR decided to contest under its own logo.

Anwar explained that the party decided to use its own logo due to the sentiment among rural voters. “Voters in rural areas are more familiar with the PKR logo.”

PKR’s decision to use its own logo has drawn criticism, including by its own allies, while an analyst interviewed by FMT alleged that it was a sign of disunity among the coalition.

PKR’s allies DAP and Amanah will be using the PH logo in the Johor elections.
