PETALING JAYA:
An Umno Youth wing has warned that the country is in the midst of “political destruction” and, if left unchecked, there will be serious consequences.

Federal Territories Umno Youth chief Nizham Abdullah Hamidi said the current heavy politicking is affecting the government adversely, especially in its decision-making process.

He called on the government to re-evaluate its position to ensure that all decisions are made in the public’s interest.

“The government is in a challenging situation due to fragmentation of political parties and this is affecting the government’s ability to make responsible decisions,” he said in a statement today.

He said while the country was busy politicking, countries like Indonesia, Vietnam and even Myanmar were taking advantage of the political conflict to attract foreign investors.

“We are in the midst of political destruction. The longer we wait, the worse it will be for this country,” he said.

Nizham, who is also the Federal Territories Barisan Nasional (BN) Youth chief, said the recent threats by Bersatu and PAS to withdraw support for the sitting prime minister, was a perfect example of why the country needed a new mandate from the people.

“In our view, this warning is not a threat to BN, it’s a threat to the people and democracy.”

He added that the Bersatu-led Perikatan Nasional was demonstrating arrogance just because it formed the biggest bloc in the government.

“This has to stop. A fresh mandate is needed for the country so that we are not left behind,” he said.
