Loh Siew Hong has been refused further access to her three children who have been placed at a home under the welfare department.

GEORGE TOWN:
Loh Siew Hong today said she is upset with the Perlis mufti, who claimed that her estranged children now dislike her and did not want to return to her.

She admitted that there was some hesitation by her three children, aged 10 to 14, when they first met last Sunday after three years.

“I spoke to my children earlier on the phone. I knew they were a bit cold towards me when I met them.

“But when I met them for an hour at a social welfare department (JKM) safe house, they warmed up to me.

“I am not upset with my children because I know they have been influenced and we have not met for so long.

“That is to be expected. But it hurts to hear someone say that my children dislike me altogether,” she told FMT.

Yesterday, Perlis mufti Asri Zainul Abidin said her children ought to remain under the care of JKM as they did not want to go back to Loh.

In a religious sermon aired live on Facebook, Asri said the daughters had “repeatedly” told him that they did not like their mother, when he met them.

“I told them (Loh’s daughters) that you have to respect your mother, for the Quran says so,” Asri said.

Loh is currently waiting for a Monday court date to have her children back in custody via a habeas corpus application. She was granted interim custody of her children in 2019 and full custody last December.

Last Saturday, she had filed a missing person’s report asking for police to recover her children, who were last known to be with her ex-husband’s family, but claimed there had been no action.

After a search, Loh eventually reunited with her children at a Perlis police station on Sunday and decided to have her children placed with a neutral party — JKM — while the High Court in Kuala Lumpur hears her habeas corpus suit on Monday.

She had asked for daily visitation of her children at JKM’s safe house in Jitra and this was agreed to by the department earlier.

However, she has since been denied access to her children, except for an hour on Wednesday, with the home claiming this was due to restrictions brought by Covid-19.
