He said Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome in Children or MIS-C had been found in nearly 60% of 174 patients in a local study.
“While it rarely happens, MIS-C can be dangerous and cause death. Most of the 174 children required critical intensive care treatment. Seven deaths have been reported,” he said in a Facebook post. He did not give details.
Urging parents to get their children vaccinated immediately, Noor Hisham said the Pfizer vaccine has been proven to be safe for children aged five to 11.
According to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, MIS-C can affect multiple organs, especially the heart. “MIS-C can be serious, even deadly, but most children diagnosed with this condition have got better with medical care,” it said.
