Shamsher Singh Thind said the authorities can only interfere if she abused her children.
“The issue is that the High Court has granted the biological mother sole custody and control,” he told reporters.
“After the court first issued the custody order, she didn’t get to exercise her rights.
“Certain quarters asked the children whether they love their mother (Loh). This is unnecessary.
“The parent has rights over her children (minors) unless she abuses them. That’s when the police can interfere.”
Earlier today, the High Court granted Loh’s habeas corpus application to recover the custody of her three children.
She had filed the application seeking the freedom of her 14-year-old twin daughters and 10-year-old son from their alleged detention after being separated from them for three years.
Malaysian Tamilar Kural president David Marshel said their focus on supporting Loh had been on reuniting her with the children, not on religious conversion.
“The issue of changing religion was not what we highlighted. But later on, we were labelled as anti-Islam, extremist, and so on.
“Whether they want to convert is the family’s personal matter, we just want to reunite the children with their mother,” he said.
