“The registration of GRS as a coalition is in response to the call by Sabahans for it to be recognised as a political entity,” the GRS chairman said.
The Registrar of Societies (RoS) had approved the application made by the coalition last Friday.
The main component parties in GRS are STAR, SAPP, Sabah Bersatu, PBS and Sabah BN.
“Let us put aside negative politics and prioritise the mandate given by the people and their needs,” Hajiji said in his speech during the launch of the Kesejahteraan Demokratik Masyarakat (KDM) party today.
Hajiji also welcomed KDM’s application to join GRS and added that the matter would be discussed with other component parties.
“If all political parties (in Sabah) cooperate, this state will be more developed and progressive, and this is what I want as the GRS chairman.”
Meanwhile, KDM president Peter Anthony said his party was ready to make its debut in the next general election (GE15), saying it had established its grassroots support for a long time.
“If the general election is called, I don’t think it would be a problem for the party in rural seats like Tenom and Papar,” he said.
Responding to calls for GRS to not hastily accept KDM’s membership into the coalition, Peter said Hajiji would make the call after discussions with the component parties.
Earlier in his speech, Peter said KDM would not sideline any community based on ethnic, cultural or religious differences, and added that the party upheld unity in diversity that had been well-practised by Sabahans.
