In a statement today, the PH presidential council said it decided on this after considering numerous factors.
“The presidential council decided that the state governments of Selangor, Penang and Negeri Sembilan, which PH administers, will not be advised to dissolve until the expiration of their terms in 2023.
“This decision was made after taking into account the economic situation of the people in the aftermath of major floods, the Covid-19 pandemic, declining income and the sharp rise in the cost of living,” it said.
The statement was signed by PKR president Anwar Ibrahim, Amanah president Mohamad Sabu, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng and Upko president Madius Tangau.
The PH presidential council said all efforts must be focused on assisting the people and reviving the economy.
The three state assemblies will have served a full five-year term as of April and May next year.
On Tuesday, PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang said that the three state legislative assemblies under the party would also not be dissolved until their terms expire next year. PAS currently controls the Kelantan, Terengganu and Kedah state governments.
The move by PAS and PH is believed to be in anticipation of Barisan Nasional (BN) possibly calling for the next general election (GE15) to be held this year.
