At a press conference, Mahathir said the party had also identified three main issues which contributed to its loss in the polls that took place on March 12.
“Pejuang remains relevant within the political arena and is committed to addressing the people’s issues,” he said.
The Pejuang chairman said the party would continue to fight corruption.
“Although we are focused on fighting corruption, we have not forgotten the issues faced by the people, namely unemployment, the difficulty for some to put food on the table, and even evictions from homes after being unable to pay rent.”
He admitted that these three issues did not receive enough attention compared with corruption during Pejuang’s campaigning, and so may not have endeared the party to voters.
With the 15th general election (GE15) looming, there was little time for the party to prepare but it remained steadfast in its struggles, Mahathir said.
On potentially cooperating with other opposition parties, he said the suggestion has been raised by Pejuang members but it would need further consideration.
Mahathir said the 54.9% voter turnout at the polls last Saturday was indicative of political fatigue, adding that GE15 should not be held anytime soon to give the people time to reflect.
“Obviously many people are tired of politics and this can be seen in the low voter turnout. The people are not ready for GE15 and must be given time to consider what is best for them.”
