Parti Sosialis Malaysia leader Michael Jeyakumar Devaraj said he had details of the land deals and would cooperate with police in their investigations.

PETALING JAYA:
Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) leader Michael Jeyakumar Devaraj has called on the police to take action on an alleged shady land deal in Perak.

The PSM chairman said that he had evidence to back up his claim but did not want to elaborate further now.

“I hope the police will also take action against the parties benefiting from the alienation of state land to private companies at grossly discounted prices,” Jeyakumar tweeted.

His remarks came after Perak police chief Mior Faridalathrash Wahid, in a statement today, said police were investigating Jeyakumar’s Facebook posting.

The post had called for the release of a farmer, Tan Tean Chee, who was arrested for allegedly obstructing a policeman from carrying out his duties in Chemor.

Mior said the case was being investigated under Section 505(c) of the Penal Code for causing public alarm and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

Jeyakumar said he was prepared to cooperate with the police in their investigations.

Recently, Tan, who is the head of the Modern Farmers Association, had led his group to stop soil testers from entering their farm in Chemor.

The issue concerned an ongoing legal battle between 132 farmers in Chemor and a Perak government body. The issue saw the farmers getting eviction notices last December to give way to a major development there.

According to Jeyakumar, lawyers for the Perak State Development Corporation (PKNP) had asked permission to enter the farmland (for soil testing), but the judge had earlier denied the request.

However, the soil testers, escorted by policemen, still came to the farmland.

Subsequently, the PKNP employees left the site but Tan was arrested later at his home for purportedly obstructing public servants from carrying out their duties.

Tan was later released on bail.
