PETALING JAYA:
The travel ban against graphic designer and activist Fahmi Reza has been lifted, his lawyer, Rajsurian Pillai, confirmed today after Fahmi posted a photograph of his new and old passports.

Fahmi said in online postings that he had successfully renewed his travel document at the immigration department in Putrajaya. “The immigration officer told me ‘I like what you are doing. Keep it up’,” he added.

Last month Fahmi had said he was blacklisted and barred from leaving Malaysia by the police. He said he had plans to travel to Europe in May for a theatre show and found out about the ban when attempting to get clearance from Bukit Aman before his flight.

“If a criminal who has been convicted of corruption can get clearance to go abroad, I hope Bukit Aman can grant me clearance just this once,” he said, adding that there should be no “double standards”.

Fahmi was slapped with charges of allegedly insulting former health minister Dr Adham Baba and PAS before the sessions court earlier this year.
