An analyst has said that Perikatan Nasional has lost significant leverage now that its chairman, Muhyiddin Yassin, is no longer the prime minister.

PETALING JAYA:
A Bersatu leader has dismissed the notion that the 15th general election will be Perikatan Nasional’s last stand, saying it is an underestimation of the party’s strength.

Faiz Na’aman, a member of Bersatu’s supreme council, said analysts were entitled to give their opinions but should not be too confident that their predictions would come true.

He was responding to James Chin of the University of Tasmania’s Asia Institute, who recently said that GE15 “is more or less the last roll of the dice” for PN.

Chin also said that PN had lost significant leverage now that its chairman, Muhyiddin Yassin, was no longer the prime minister.

PN is made up of Bersatu, PAS, Gerakan, Sabah Progressive Party and STAR.

Faiz said the coalition would survive even if it were to lose in the next general election.

He recalled that analysts had, in the past, sounded the death knell of PKR, PSM and Berjasa.

These parties are still alive, he added.
