Farhash Wafa Salvador Rizal Mubarak said he would protest the “nonsensical” results of the polls at the Gombak division.
“We have solid evidence to lodge an objection and we demand for a forensic audit,” he said in a statement today.
The race for the Gombak PKR division head’s post saw Farhash taking on Selangor PKR chief Amirudin Shari, who is also the menteri besar.
Based on the unofficial results for the division published on the PKR website today, Amirudin garnered 1,858 votes against Farhash’s 1,215 votes.
Farhash claimed that the number of ballots that were cast did not correspond with the number of voters who had participated in the polls at the division.
He expressed hope that the party election committee (JPP) and leadership would take the necessary action and address the matter, especially if it was proven that the polls had been compromised.
Concerns raised by the former Perak PKR chief over the party polls are the latest in a series of grievances lodged by candidates and members.
There have been allegations of phantom voters as well as “dubious” members who were allowed to vote.
The polls were also marred by technical glitches that disrupted polling in eight divisions last weekend.
Meanwhile, vice-president candidate and Terengganu PKR chief Azan Ismail echoed Farhash’s call for an audit into the election process by an independent body after he claimed that there were a lot of discrepancies in the results from several branches.
He cited the Hulu Selangor branch, which he claimed had announced its unofficial results together with dubious votes today, less than 24 hours after the re-voting process that took place in the division yesterday.
He also claimed that there were divisions that recorded a much high number of votes than the number of voters.
Azan said these problems had raised doubts about the Adil voting application that was being used in the voting process.
He argued that as more candidates came out to voice their objections, a strong case had been made for the forensic audit to be conducted.
The PKR elections this year are believed to have seen a low turnout, with less than 13% of the party’s 1.1 million members coming out to vote in person or doing it online.
Earlier today, JPP said the party polls had ended with the official results to be announced at the PKR congress on June 25, while the unofficial results would be published on the PKR website from today.
