JOHOR BAHRU:
The KTM Shuttle Tebrau service between Johor Bahru Sentral station (JB Sentral) and Woodlands station in Singapore will resume from June 19.

The service was suspended on March 24, 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the closing of international borders.

Transport minister Wee Ka Siong said ticket sales will commence on Monday from 3am.

He added that a total of 31 trips would be provided daily, comprising 18 trips from JB Sentral to Woodlands and 13 trips from Woodlands to JB Sentral.

About 7,000 passengers are expected to use the shuttle service daily and the maximum capacity for each trip is 320 passengers, with a train frequency of one every 30 minutes.

Wee spoke to reporters after conducting a spot check on the construction site of the Johor Bahru-Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) project in Bukit Chagar here today.

Wee said passengers will use their passports as official tickets for check-in at JB Sentral station and Woodlands station before boarding the shuttle train.

He said the ticket price for the JB Sentral to Woodlands route is RM5 per person while from Woodlands to JB Sentral it is S$5 (RM15.86) per person.

“Passengers can buy tickets using the KITS online system or at KTM ticket counters. Passengers are required to register and enter their passport number before purchasing a KTM Shuttle Tebrau ticket,” he said.

RTS 17% complete and on schedule

Asked on the progress of the RTS project, Wee said it was currently 17% complete.
He said the construction schedule is running smoothly.

“Technically, there is no issue. We just need to divert the pipeline belonging to the Public Utilities Authority of Singapore.

“The ministry will ask Mass Rapid Transit Corp to monitor the contractor’s performance to speed up the development project in keeping with the schedule.”

Wee said the contractor had been doing piling for the past few months after which more construction workers will be brought to the construction site.

He said the six development project packages included the depot area, station, as well as the immigration, customs and quarantine complex. As these projects are being undertaken simultaneously, more workers will be needed.

The RTS Link project, which is scheduled to be ready by December 2026, is expected to be able to attract 35% of the 350,000 people who travel via the Johor Causeway daily.

Once completed, the RTS network will be able to carry 10,000 passengers per hour, thus helping to alleviate traffic congestion on highways.

The RTS Link is a 4km rail network connecting Bukit Chagar, Johor Bahru and Woodlands in Singapore.
