PETALING JAYA:
Former Selangor Barisan Nasional (BN) information chief Isham Jalil has been appointed to the Umno Supreme Council.

This was revealed in a congratulatory message by fellow council member Puad Zakarshi on Facebook, with a photograph of Isham being sworn in.

Isham had been the subject of speculation about being appointed to the party’s top leadership after Tajuddin Abdul Rahman, the ambassador-designate to Indonesia, was removed from the council.

He had said earlier today that he had been informed by Umno secretary-general Ahmad Maslan of an invitation to attend the meeting tonight.

His appointment comes three weeks after he was axed as Selangor BN information chief. Selangor BN stated that the position of state information chief was not provided for in the coalition’s constitution.
