In the video, Siti Aishah criticised the government’s announcement on the removal of subsidies from July 1, saying it would result in a sharp price increase for some food items.
Lembah Pantai MP Fahmi Fadzil said Siti Aishah, who is a PKR member, was taken to the Sungai Senam police station in Ipoh, Perak, at about 1.45pm.
Ipoh police chief Yahaya Hassan confirmed that Siti Aishah was being investigated by the Perak commercial crime investigation department (CCID).
In an audio clip that has gone viral, a voice allegedly belonging to Siti Aishah said the police and some officers from the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) raided her house today and seized the phone and other equipment used to record the video.
The former PKR Srikandi (young women’s wing) chief also alleged that the investigation followed a police report lodged by an NGO at the Dang Wangi district police headquarters (IPD) against her.
Siti Aishah recorded the video following the announcement by domestic trade and consumer affairs minister Alexander Nanta Linggi on June 21 that the government would cease subsidising bottled cooking oil (2kg, 3kg and 5kg) from July 1.
The minister also announced that the ceiling prices for chicken and eggs would be removed on the same date.
