Judge Rushan Lutfi Mohamed made the decision following an application by deputy public prosecutor Husni Fairos Ramly to stop Yuseri Yusoff, 39, from commenting and questioning the role of the court, police and the attorney-general in the inquest.
“The prosecution is seeking a gag order against the victim’s father from making any comments about the court, the police and the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) to ensure the inquest proceedings will proceed smoothly,” Husni told the judge.
Inquest coordinating officer Badius Zaman Ahmad added that Yuseri must not share any information or documents on social media or other platforms until the end of the inquest.
The inquest to determine the cause of death of the 15-month-old toddler was supposed to start today, but was postponed again after the coroner was reportedly unavailable.
Rushan then set three days for the inquest proceedings to take place – Sept 22, Nov 10 and Nov 17.
Amin Anuar, who is holding a watching brief for Yuseri’s family, told the court that his team had, among others, received two lists containing the names of 28 potential witnesses to be called to testify at the inquest.
Rania was believed to have died after her head was entangled in a cloth cradle at a childcare centre at Taman Nusari Aman, Bandar Sri Sendayan, on Feb 22.
Seremban police chief Nanda Maarof was reported as saying that the baby was found unconscious in a room at the nursery, with her head hanging from the cradle and the rest of her body inside it.
He said early investigations found that the baby had been fed milk at 12.30pm and was left to sleep in the cradle in a room with two other children.
Rania’s parents started a social media movement after her death with the hashtag #Justiceforbabysyifaa, which now has 60,000 followers.
The hashtag has been used by Yuseri as a platform to provide explanations and also demand answers from the authorities on the death of his child.
