Irrational to say ‘sexy’ clothes cause sexual harassment, says Fuziah

The PKR MP says a person’s attire has nothing to do with being a victim of sexual harassment, pointing out that even a goat had been raped in the past.

Kuantan MP Fuziah Salleh said it was not helpful to blame victims of sexual harassment for the way they dressed, adding that this was akin to punishing the victim.
KUALA LUMPUR:
A PKR MP says it is “irrational” to blame the way women dress as the cause of sexual harassment.

While debating the anti-sexual harassment bill in the Dewan Rakyat, Fuziah Salleh (PH-Kuantan) said a person’s attire had nothing to do with being subjected to sexual harassment.

“A 74-year-old grandmother had been raped (in the past). A five-year-old child was raped. A teenage boy was also raped.

“Even a goat was raped until it died,” the former deputy religious affairs minister pointed out. “Were they dressed sexily?”

Fuziah maintained that it was not helpful to blame victims of sexual harassment for the way they dressed, saying this was akin to punishing the victim.

The anti-sexual harassment bill was tabled for its second reading in the Dewan Rakyat by women, family and community development minister Rina Harun yesterday.
