PETALING JAYA:
Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani has ordered Bukit Aman’s criminal investigation department (CID) to probe threats made against Chief Justice Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat.

This comes after various threats were made on social media platforms against Tengku Maimun, who is chairing the five-member panel presiding over Najib Razak’s final appeal in his SRC International case.

According to Berita Harian, Acryl Sani said this was a serious issue and that an investigation had been initiated though no police reports on the threats had been lodged.

“I have already directed Bukit Aman CID to initiate a probe by going through every threat made against the chief justice. The probe will also involve the special investigation unit.

“We will not tolerate anything that can threaten public peace and security,” he was quoted as saying by the daily.

The other judges on the panel presiding over Najib’s final SRC appeal are Chief Judge of Sabah and Sarawak Abang Iskandar Abang Hashim, and Federal Court judges Nallini Pathmanathan, Mary Lim and Zabidin Mohamad Diah.

Najib is seeking to quash his conviction for abuse of power, money laundering and criminal breach of trust over SRC funds amounting to RM42 million that entered his bank accounts.

On July 28, 2020, he was convicted by the High Court. His conviction was upheld by the Court of Appeal on Dec 8 last year, as was his 12-year jail sentence and RM210 million fine.
