In making the announcement at a press conference here, Kuasa president Kamarazaman Yaakob said the decision was made because both parties shared the same principles.
Kamarazaman is the brother of Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
“Kuasa is friendly to BN (Barisan Nasional) and today’s coalition government.
“By combining efforts, we will have renewed strength and can be seen as a major force in national politics,” he said.
According to Kamarazaman, Kuasa was interested in merging with PBM to become one party. However, the matter would be decided at the PBM annual general meeting on Oct 1.
“So, for now, we will not be disbanding our party,” he said.
At the same press conference, PBM president Larry Sng said he was happy that Kuasa wanted to work with PBM.
“At our annual general meeting later, we will make a decision on our cooperation with Kuasa,” he said.
On another note, Sng said PBM had decided to defend all the seats held by their representatives in both the Dewan Rakyat and state legislative assemblies.
He added that a few more MPs may join PBM, telling reporters to look out for an announcement that will be made on Tuesday in Kuala Lumpur.
“So far we have Ampang, Tebrau, Julau (MPs) and the latest, Lahad Datu. But there will probably be two or three more,” he said.
Earlier at the same press conference, former federal minister and Lahad Datu MP Mohamaddin Ketapi announced that he had joined PBM.
