Zuraida Kamaruddin quit Bersatu on May 26 to join Parti Bangsa Malaysia.

PETALING JAYA:
Ampang MP Zuraida Kamaruddin is expected to take over the position of Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM) president, which is currently held by Julau MP Larry Sng, in October.

FMT has been told the announcement will be made at the PBM annual general meeting.

“Yes, the announcement will be made during the annual general assembly, at which time Zuraida will become president and Sng deputy president,” said a source.

Sng was appointed president of the newly formed PBM in January.

In June, Sng said PBM’s grassroots and its political bureau and supreme council had unanimously agreed to appoint Zuraida as the president-designate to “drive PBM’s development and progress”.

The plantation industries and commodities minister, who quit Bersatu on May 26, has been given the mandate to lead the party’s delegation in meetings and negotiations with other party leaders, especially in discussions on forming political alliances.

PBM has four representatives in the Dewan Rakyat – Sng (Julau), Zuraida (Ampang), Steven Choong (Tebrau) and Mohamaddin Ketapi (Lahad Datu). Mohamaddin officially joined the party yesterday.

PBM, which has applied to join Barisan Nasional, also has five assemblymen. Three are from Perak – Leong Cheok Keng (Malim Nawar), A Sivasubramaniam (Buntong) and Paul Yong (Tronoh) – and two are from Selangor – Haniza Talha (Lembah Jaya) and Daroyah Alwi (Sementa).
