PETALING JAYA:
Sarawak deputy premier Dr Sim Kui Hian has sidestepped queries on whether PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang has been banned from entering the state.

After chastising Hadi for recent comments linking corruption to non-Muslims and non-Bumiputeras, Sim said only Sarawak premier Abang Johari Openg had the authority to bar anyone from entering the state.

“But how do you know he has not done this (banned Hadi from entering Sarawak)?” Sim said, when asked by reporters if he believed Hadi should be barred from setting foot in the state.

“I don’t know. You have to ask the premier,” he said, according to the Borneo Post.

Hadi has come under criticism after he was reported saying on Aug 20 that non-Muslims and non-Bumiputeras were at the root of corruption and formed the “majority of those involved in ruining the country’s politics and economy”.

Some 28 police reports have been lodged against the Marang MP, who gave his statement to the police last Monday over their probe into the matter.

Yesterday, Hadi said he would answer all further queries related to his claim in court.

Sim, the president of the Sarawak United People’s Party, hit out at Hadi for being narrow-minded and dismissed it as the PAS president’s tactic to win voters with elections looming.

He maintained that Hadi’s views were not in line with Sarawak’s values.
