SMS Maju Solutions proprietor Sabariah Mohamed Sayuti, 41, said besides chicken, 500 trays of Grade D eggs were also sold out in less than three hours.
“All basic items like rice, cooking oil and vegetables were in high demand, but the items most sought after were chickens and eggs.
“Chicken was sold at RM7.50 a kilogramme compared with the normal price of RM9.40, and we had to limit it to only two birds per customer,” she told reporters.
A customer, Norzaini Mamat, 34, said besides food supplies and kitchen essentials, the programme had helped her to get the necessary supplies for her child, especially disposable diapers, which were sold with huge discounts.
“I would normally come here every three days to stock up my supply at home but today’s prices were very different compared to normal days,” she said, adding that she took the opportunity to buy two fresh chickens.
Nenggiri assemblyman Ab Aziz Yusoff said the Jihad Against Inflation initiative by the government had indirectly helped reduce the people’s burden.
“Progammes like this have a big impact on the rural folk and can indirectly help reduce their cost of living,” he said.
