PETALING JAYA:
Budget 2023 will be tabled again in the Dewan Rakyat before the end of the year, said Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

According to Bernama, Ismail said there were many things he wanted to give to the people but they had to be put on hold since the budget had yet to be passed in Parliament.

He promised that every initiative outlined in the budget would be implemented if he was given the mandate to serve as prime minister again after the 15th general election (GE15).

“If someone else is governing, I can’t guarantee (people) will get what has been promised. There’s a difference between a budget that has been tabled but not passed yet and a manifesto.

“Manifestoes are pledges. But for a budget that has been tabled, the funds are ready. We’re just waiting (for the Dewan Rakyat) to approve it to implement it.”

Finance minister Tengku Zafrul Aziz had tabled the annual federal budget on Oct 7, announcing an allocation of RM372.3 billion. This represented a RM40.2 billion increase compared to the RM332.1 billion allocated for 2022.

About RM272.3 billion was allocated for operational expenditure and RM95 billion for development.

Ismail then announced the dissolution of Parliament on Oct 10, paving the way for GE15. The Election Commission (EC) is expected to announce the date for polling day on Thursday.

After GE15, the new government will have to retable seven bills in the Dewan Rakyat, including the Supply Bill 2023, better known as Budget 2023.
