Instead, Rodziah said, Zuraida had tarnished her brand by betraying PH through the Sheraton Move in February 2020, which eventually led to the former PKR vice-president’s sacking.
“Was that ‘brand’ (she claims to have) hers or was she riding on PKR,” questioned Rodziah.
While she did not deny Zuraida’s contributions to the constituency in her three terms as Ampang MP, she believed that voters would be giving her rival the boot in the general election because of her treachery.
“They understand that their vote goes to who forms the government, it’s not just about the individual.”
Zuraida had said she believed her track record as the Ampang MP for the past 14 years gave her the edge in the nine-cornered contest for the parliamentary seat.
In 2018, she had won the seat on a PH ticket with a majority of nearly 42,000 votes. She was appointed housing and local government minister in Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s Cabinet.
However, she was sacked alongside former PKR deputy president Azmin Ali over their role in the Sheraton Move and the eventual toppling of the PH government.
While she joined Bersatu after that, she had left the Muhyiddin Yassin-led party this year to join the newly-formed Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM).
Now contesting under the PBM banner, she will be battling against Rodziah, Barisan Nasional’s Ivone Low, Perikatan Nasional’s Sasha Lyna Abdul Latif, Pejuang’s Nurul Ashikin Mabahwi, Warisan’s Lai Wai Chong and three independent candidates.
