As of 1.50am, BN had only won 24 of the 220 parliamentary seats, a far cry from initial expectations.
After Zahid posted a statement on Facebook about the results, where he described them as a “big sign” for the bloc, commenters were quick to slam the Umno president and call for his resignation.
A user going by the name IK Rumput Hijau, in a nod to Zahid’s ongoing corruption trial, said, “resign la uncle, the Kajang warden has opened the door already.”
He wasn’t alone in referencing Zahid’s court cases. Mohammad Faizal commented that he “hopes everything is easier for you in Kajang when you’re with your best friend Najib Razak.”
Another user, Mohammad Muzani, said “Dato Seri Zahid Hamidi should have resigned long ago.”
Fariz Hadi simply commented “(you’re) the cause of Umno’s downfall,” which drew a slew of ‘likes’ from fellow users.
