He mourned the loss, saying Nurul Izzah was a bright, next-generation leader and a senior PKR leader.
“We are disappointed. We lost a seat and lost a future leader who couldn’t hold on to her seat,” Chow told reporters.
Nurul Izzah, a vice-president of PKR, lost to Fawwaz Md Jan of Perikatan Nasional by a majority of 5,272 votes.
Fawwaz, from PAS, polled 37,638 votes to Nurul Izzah’s 32,366, Zaidi Said of Barisan Nasional had 16,971 votes, while Cikgu Nasir of Pejuan polled 47 votes and lost his deposit.

Chow said Penang PH had also fallen short in its target to retain 11 parliamentary seats in Penang under PH control.
He said that while he had won the Batu Kawan seat with a big majority, he remained concerned over PH’s inability to conquer what was billed as Barisan Nasional strongholds— Kepala Batas and Tasek Gelugor. Both seats were won by PN.
“There is some defect in our target, but the decision has been made. We now wait for the national results to see if we can find a path to form a federal government,” he said.
Permatang Pauh is considered to be the family seat of Anwar Ibrahim. It has been held by him, his wife Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and daughter Nurul Izzah since 1982.
