PETALING JAYA:
Messages of congratulations have started pouring in from Pakatan Harapan leaders following Istana Negara’s confirmation that Anwar Ibrahim will become the prime minister.

DAP chairman Lim Guan Eng said Anwar was fit for the role and thanked the Yang di-Pertuan Agong for his “wise” decision in choosing the PKR president as the nation’s 10th prime minister.

“He is the people’s choice. I believe Anwar will carry out his duties and uphold the constitution, forming a people-centric government for the benefit of all,” he told FMT.

DAP’s Bentong MP Young Syefura Othman said she was pleased to hear the news, and that she was happy for Anwar.

“I am also happy for PH and I cannot wait for Anwar to lead the country’s agenda and reforms,” she told FMT.

Former Klang MP Charles Santiago said Anwar will be a strong leader who will unite the country, after a political campaign that saw hate speeches with religious sentiments played up.

“He is a strong leader. He has promised reforms and I believe he will see it through,” he said.

On social media, Ipoh Barat MP M Kulasegaran said Anwar was the people’s choice to lead the nation in the right direction.

Muda president and Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman also extended his congratulations to Anwar, saying PH will make Malaysia a better place.

Meanwhile, Anwar has since changed his Twitter bio, which now states: “10th Prime Minister of Malaysia”.

The PKR president will be sworn in at 5pm today.
