He said this after attending the Umno Supreme Council meeting at the party’s headquarters here last night.
On Wednesday evening, Barisan Nasional MPs met with Perikatan Nasional leaders to hear the Muhyiddin Yassin-led coalition’s pitch for a unity government.
This was in line with the BN Supreme Council’s decision yesterday.
“The Umno Supreme Council has also agreed that all the newly elected MPs from the party will accept any unity government or any other form of government that will be decreed by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong,” Ahmad said.
He also said that the Supreme Council members unanimously agreed to support Ahmad Zahid Hamidi as Barisan Nasional chairman and Umno president.
He added that the Umno General Assembly would now be held on Dec 21. It was initially scheduled to be held six months after the 15th general election.
Yesterday, Zahid revealed that the King had decreed that BN must be part of a unity government after meeting the coalition’s leaders at Istana Negara.
PH won 82 seats at Saturday’s general election while PN won 73 seats, both well short of the simple majority of 112 required in the 222-seat Dewan Rakyat.
