In a Facebook post, Annuar said the focus must now be on forming a government that was capable of fulfilling its responsibility in serving the people and nation.
“At this time, there is also a need for not only national unity but also national reconciliation. (It is time to) stop all disputes, and to strengthen cooperation instead.
“This is a healing process that can restore the nation’s formidability in facing economic, social and global political challenges,” the Ketereh Umno chief said.
At the height of the political impasse before Anwar’s appointment to the top post, Annuar had warned that Umno was on a “path of ruin” should it forge working ties with Pakatan Harapan and DAP in forming a new federal government.
He said Umno rejected working with DAP because there was no common ground between the parties.
On Friday, a Twitter post made the rounds claiming that a meeting between Barisan Nasional and PAS leaders purportedly took place at the Tropicana Golf & Country Resort.
Among those spotted were Annuar, his press secretary Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz, former prime minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob, PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan and MCA president Wee Ka Siong.
Wee had denied meeting Ismail as well as the other BN and PAS leaders, saying he was there for an appointment at a separate restaurant.
Meanwhile, Ismail said he was only meeting friends from PAS but this had been misconstrued.
