PETALING JAYA:
Kuala Selangor MP Dzulkefly Ahmad has urged the police and the attorney-general to act on “fake news” against Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and Pakatan Harapan.

“Daily online attacks aimed at inciting racial and religious tensions towards Anwar and PH are becoming more common.

“The police and attorney-general need to take immediate action,” he said on Twitter.

The former health minister also claimed the online attacks were perpetrated by the “losers of the 15th general election”.

On Nov 26, Hulu Langat MP Sany Hamzan also urged the authorities to take action against social media users for making inflammatory statements in their postings.

Inspector-General of Police Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani previously warned that stern action, including the use of the Sedition Act, would be taken against those behind social media postings that touched on racial and religious sensitivities.

The police are currently investigating Baling MP Hassan Saad for claiming that Anwar is an Israeli agent.

The case has been classified under Sections 500 and 504 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for defamation, intentional insult with intent to provoke a breach of peace, and improper use of network facilities, respectively.
