IPOH:
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim says he will be laying down some new rules for his Cabinet when they officially meet for the first time.

Speaking in Tambun, Anwar disclosed that the Cabinet will hold a special meeting on Monday

He said the new rules will include cost-cutting measures.

“Our focus is on economic recovery. We have already restored the confidence of foreign and domestic investors, while the ringgit has also become stronger,” he said.

Previously, Anwar had said the government’s procurement process can no longer be conducted without tenders, to prevent corruption and leakages.

He also said no new official car would be bought for his use, and no renovations were to be carried out at his office, as part of a new culture against wastage of public funds that must be practised by all.

Yesterday, Anwar also reminded all parties not to give him gifts, saying this culture must stop as it was not in line with management and leadership ethics.

While campaigning during the general election, he said he would not take a salary if appointed as the prime minister in a show of solidarity with the people who were struggling with the rising cost of living.

Anwar will unveil his Cabinet lineup this evening. The event will be broadcast live.
