PETALING JAYA:
Singer Jamal Abdillah has decided to opt out of the Muafakat Nasional organisation, saying he wishes to remain politically neutral and keep his views unfiltered.

Jamal, who made the charts with his hit song Gadis Melayu said family members, friends, and fans had asked him to withdraw.

“I humbly would like to opt out. Politics is not compatible with my principles as an entertainer wanting mass appeal. This includes fans who are in different political parties,” he was quoted by Berita Harian as saying.

Muafakat Nasional is a society started recently by former Ketereh MP Annuar Musa after he was expelled by Umno. It is also the name of a now defunct political alliance forged by Umno and PAS in September 2019.

Jamal and actor Eizlan Yusof were among a list of MN leaders announced by Annuar on Dec 15. The others included former Ampang MP Zuraida Kamaruddin, Redzuan Yusof of Bersatu, Zuhdi Marsuki (PAS), Khairuddin Abu Hassan (Pejuang), and former Segamat MP Edmund Santhara Kumar (Bersatu).

One of its leaders said the party would not have any political leanings and would remain one that is non-partisan.
