“The focus now is to defend Negeri Sembilan, Selangor, and Penang. PH is confident of victory based on the current situation,” he said after attending the PH presidential council meeting.
While PH is expected to work together with Barisan Nasional, Saifuddin said the meeting did not delve into the possible cooperation as the current focus is for the election committee to make necessary preparations.
PH is expected to face a strong fight from Perikatan Nasional (PN), which comprises PAS and Bersatu.
Saifuddin said the chances of winning Kedah are 50-50 between PH and PN. He added that the coalition is also expected to become a strong opposition in Kelantan and Terengganu. The two states and Kedah are under PAS control.
In November, Selangor PN chief Sukri Omar said the coalition was confident about its chances after winning six seats in the parliamentary general election.
PN won Kapar, Kuala Langat, Hulu Selangor, Tanjong Karang, Sabak Bernam, and Sungai Besar.
Selangor DAP deputy chairman Ng Suee Lim had also said that PN would pose a big threat to PH and warned of the possibility of losing seats in the state election.
Recently, Kedah PN chairman Sanusi Nor said the coalition was confident of securing 33 out of 36 seats. He expects PH to win only three seats namely Kota Darul Aman, Bakar Arang, and Sidam.
