In a statement today, it said the group, known as “Dark Pink”, used phishing emails to target and randomly attack the email network used by agencies under the defence ministry and ATM.
“However, their activities were detected early, and prevention measures were put in place. At this moment, our communication network that uses the internet is secure,” ATM said.
It added that it constantly monitors and strengthens the cybersecurity strength of the network from time to time, as a means to prevent any sort of cyber attacks that can hamper its digital operations and IT infrastructure.
“All actions that we take are to prevent and break (the) hackers’ modus operandi and technological tools. These always pose a threat not just to the armed forces communication and monitoring network, but also to the nation’s strategic communications.”
Earlier today, Bloomberg reported that Malaysia and other Southeast Asian countries were facing new cyber threats from a hacker group targeting confidential government and military data.
It said the group, “Dark Pink”, which is suspected to be linked to an Asian government, was using custom malware to infiltrate seven high-profile targets in Southeast Asia and Europe.
The countries that were targeted include the Philippines, Cambodia, Indonesia and Bosnia-Herzegovina, with the attacks taking place between September and December last year.
