PETALING JAYA:
It was the most unkind cut for former Selangor Umno chief Noh Omar when he was barred from using a hall that bears his name in the constituency in which he was MP for 27 years, after he was sacked by the party.

The Dewan Tan Sri Noh Omar hall, located at the Tanjong Karang Farmer’s Management Institute, was supposed to be the venue for a meeting with his supporters to discuss the next course of action.

According to a Malaysiakini report, his supporters were shocked to see a postponement notice placed on the gate after they arrived there. It said the programme had been postponed due to “unavoidable reasons”.

However, Tanjong Karang Umno division secretary Jasman Anuar said the institute was ordered by a higher authority to bar Noh from using the facility.

“We cannot use the hall. There was an instruction to bar him,” he said.

He said they were expecting a large turnout as an expression of solidarity for Noh especially after what had befallen the former Tanjong Karang Umno division chief recently, adding that he had agreed to attend.

However, an undeterred Noh met his supporters later in his former constituency to explain the situation.

On Friday, Noh was suspended by Umno for six years for breaching party discipline during the recent general election, but asked to be sacked instead.

Noh, who previously called for Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to step down as party president following Barisan Nasional’s defeat in GE15, said the suspension was “pointless”.
