PETALING JAYA:
Bersatu information chief Wan Saiful Wan Jan has been arrested and will be charged in court tomorrow with another person, a businessman, in relation to the Jana Wibawa initiative.

Wan Saiful, who is Tasek Gelugor MP, is believed to have been arrested after he had gone to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission headquarters at 8pm over the investigation. “He has been uncontactable since”, according to Malaysiakini.

The businessman was named by The Star as Adam Radlan Adam Muhammad.

The Jana Wibawa programme was a Covid-19 stimulus initiative to help Bumiputera contractors.

It has been mired in controversy after Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said costs were too high for some projects. He said the projects had been approved without going through a tender process.

The stimulus package was carried out during the tenure of former prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin, who is Bersatu president. He said on Friday he had been questioned by MACC as a witness. He denied there was any misappropriation of funds.

Muhyiddin had also revealed that the project had been proposed by Tengku Zafrul Aziz, the then finance minister, and that he had agreed to it. MACC has since said it would call up Tengku Zafrul as part of its probe.
