PETALING JAYA:
The flood situation in Johor has worsened with the number of evacuees more than tripled in just four hours.

The Johor disaster management committee said 5,878 victims have been evacuated in the state as of noon, compared with 1,591 at 8am.

Kluang was the worst-hit district with 1,952 victims relocated to relief centres, followed by Segamat (1,431), Kota Tinggi (1,156), Johor Bahru (1,004), Kulai (320) and Pontian (15).

Fifty-four relief centres have been opened in the state.

Rain is expected to persist across Johor until this evening.

The water level in several rivers in the state have reached dangerous levels.

The floods have also left 89 SPM students stranded and unable to sit for their exam papers.
