He said he was informed of this by Umno elections committee chairman Shahrir Abdul Samad yesterday.
“I would like to confirm that the chairman of the Umno elections committee has informed me (that there is no cancellation letter) and Rais has been confirmed as head of the Tangga Batu division,” he told reporters after an event at the Ar-Rahman Mosque in Kampung Pulai, Serkam here last night.
He was asked to comment on a viral letter dated March 27 that claimed Rais’ victory as the Tangga Batu division head had been annulled.
Division secretary Abdul Latip Mohamad was reported to have said he received notification about Rais’ victory being cancelled through a letter from the Umno central leadership received via WhatsApp yesterday afternoon.
According to Latip, the letter said there were irregularities during the election on March 18 held at a hotel.
Rais had defeated incumbent Ali Mohamad by four votes after obtaining 282 votes to Ali’s 278.
