PETALING JAYA:
A man armed with an axe slashed a security guard in the head, locked him up in a toilet and made off with 70 iPhones from a commercial complex next to the leaning tower of Teluk Intan, Perak, early today.

Hilir Perak police said the thief broke into the phone shop at Kompleks Menara Condong Teluk Intan and stole the iPhones, worth an estimated RM300,000.

Police said the 60-year-old guard had been resting at the commercial complex’s toilet counter when the axeman approached him.

“The victim tried to dodge the attack and a fight broke out. The axeman slashed the top of the guard’s head, tied his hands and feet, and locked him in the toilet,” said district police chief Ahmad Adnan Basri.

“The suspect then proceeded to break into a telecommunications shop at the complex, using a grinder to cut through the shutter door’s lock,” said Ahmad.

The police went to the scene after receiving a tip-off at 3.22am. Ahmad urged those with information about the suspect or the incident to contact Hilir Perak district police headquarters at 05-6299 2222 or any police station.
