
According to the charge sheet, the claims were made despite there being no actual travel.
Azlan was charged with committing the offence under Section 18 of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act, between 2013 and 2017.
He claimed trial before judge Norsalha Hamzah at the Kangar sessions court in Perlis.
He was granted bail of RM50,000 in one surety and was ordered to surrender his passport to the court pending the disposal of the case.
For the first charge, Azlan was accused of falsely claiming RM230,230 in respect of return flight tickets, hotel stay and transportation in London between Dec 20, 2013 and Jan 4, 2014.
For the second charge, he was accused of falsely claiming RM216,260 for return flight tickets to London and hotel stay between Nov 20, 2014 and Dec 18, 2014.
For the third charge, he was accused of falsely claiming RM241,295 for return flight tickets to London and hotel stay between Nov 30, 2015 and Dec 21, 2015.
For the fourth charge, Azlan was accused of falsely claiming RM253,195 for return flight tickets to London and hotel stay between Nov 8, 2016 and Dec 29, 2016.
For the final charge, he was accused of falsely claiming RM244,079 for return flight tickets to London and hotel stay between Nov 8, 2017 and Nov 30, 2017.
He was charged with committing these offences in his capacity as the menteri besar.
The court fixed May 12 for next mention.
Under Section 24(2) of the Act, Azlan will, if convicted, face a jail term of up to 20 years and a minimum fine five times the value of the false claim.
DPP Ahmad Akram Gharib appeared for the prosecution, while lawyers Burhanudeen Abdul Wahid and Ramli Shariff represented Azlan.
